The Sights Served Up With Southern Hospitality

After years of vacationing in Maine, Norm Forgey, a native of Dallas, Texas, relocated here ten years ago.  He retired in 2007 after working in Portland as an IT Director.  Norm started Maine Day Trip, providing customized sightseeing trips for individuals and small groups up to six people, as a way of keeping himself busy.  Whether his clients wanted to see area lighthouses, covered bridges, or even go in search of moose up north, Norm would drive them along the byways, relating anecdotes in his southern twang about local scenes and historic landmarks along the way.

Since then, business has boomed.  Last year Norm expanded his audience to work with groups from cruise ships, who desire a personal touch to their sightseeing experience.  He rents a bus for those trips, which can accommodate up to 50 people.  Maine Day Trip has also introduced a new destination relocation service for the Portland regional area to give families an unbiased orientation and evaluation tour and to help them envision their living experience in a new environment.  Norm is working with the Scarborough Community Chamber to promote eco-tourism, emphasizing travel to natural and historical areas that conserve the environment and improve the community's well-being.
